Handbook & Supply Lists

Elementary school students are expected to go outdoors for recess unless the wind chill factor falls below –5°F. Parents and guardians should be certain that their children are appropriately clothed with mittens, hats, coats, etc.  During the winter months, sometimes parents request that their children remain in the classroom during noon recess. Such requests are difficult to honor because duty-free periods are provided for instructors at this time, and the rooms are not under teacher supervision. We have found that a short period of outdoor exercise generally refreshes children and gives them the opportunity to stretch and exercise muscles. Students arrive back in the classroom with renewed focus on learning.

Students are expected to be good digital citizens and follow the guidelines for acceptable use of the Internet. All students will understand and agree to the following guidelines:

I can use the internet at school for ...

• completing classroom assignments
• collaborating with other students and my teacher
• conducting approved independent study
• searching for information for my classroom assignments
• publishing and sharing my work
• printing with my teacher's permission
• learning through educational game sites that are approved by my teacher

While on the internet I agree NOT to...

• give out personal information such as last name, address, or phone number
• send or receive e-mail unless a teacher has designed a project calling for e-mail use.
• access inappropriate materials on the Internet for any reason. If I accidentally access inappropriate material or material which makes me feel uncomfortable, I will close the file immediately and tell my instructor.

I have read and understand the above guidelines. If I choose not to follow these guidelines, I understand that this privilege will be taken away and school disciplinary action may be taken. This agreement will remain in effect during all of my years at Oak View Elementary School.

All traffic (with the exception of the buses) should be entering from the east entrance and exiting the west.  All traffic should yield to the buses and let them exit the parking lot first.  They are on a schedule.  Thank you for the support. 

Drop-Off: Parents and public daycare vans may drop-off students at the curb at the front of the building at 9:10 a.m.  Students are allowed into the building foyer at 9:10 a.m. and relaeased for breakfast at 9:20 a.m.  School begins at 9:30 a.m.  If students arrive PRIOR to 9:10 a.m. it is the parents responsibility to supervise their child(ren). 

If you need to come into the building, please park your car and walk your child across the parking lot to the front entrance using the patrol crosswalk.  Patrols are on their post at 9:10 a.m. each day.

 Pickup: At 4:00 p.m.  dismissal parents are required to park and walk across the parking lot to pick up students at the front entrance.  If you park in the short-term parking area/front row, please use caution when backing up.  This area is close to the patrol crosswalk and has a lot of traffic at the end of the day.  Patrols are on their post at 3:55 p.m. each day.

Oak View welcomes visitors to have lunch with their student.  Guests are asked to:

• Make reservations with the office by 10:00 in the morning.  763-425-1881
• Come to the office to register, and pick up a visitor badge
• You will meet your child at the cafeteria at their scheduled lunch time
• Pay for your lunch in the cafeteria

Pre-School Visitor Lunch $3.00

Extra Milk $.50

Please bring in the exact amount. We are unable to process payments for your lunch from your child’s lunch account.

Lunch times are:
 

K     12:50  to 1:50 p.m.

1st     12:20  to 12:45 p.m.

2nd     12:20 to 12:45 p.m.

3rd     1:20 to 1:45 p.m.

4th      1:20 to 1:45 p.m.

5th      12:50 to 1:15 p.m.
