Reading is Fun 5K early bird registration now open

Registration has begun for the 13th Annual Reading is Fun 5K, which takes place Saturday, Oct. 7 at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove.

Proceeds from this community event will be allocated to media centers to provide unique activities and resources for Osseo Area Schools scholars. Over the past decade, this family-friendly fundraising event has provided over $100,000 to media centers.

Recent examples of resources funded by Reading is Fun 5K proceeds include:

  • Students at Zanewood Elementary School had the opportunity to select popular books (ebooks and physical copies) to be purchased so they had more of these high- demand stories available for check out from the media center.
  • At North View Middle School, students requested K-Pop themed books and more scary stories for the library shelves. They were a big hit and are continually checked out.
  • Weaver Lake Elementary School purchased a subscription to Shapegrams. With this resource, students in upper grades are learning to use Google Draw like a graphic artist. For the younger elementary students, LED lights and batteries were purchased to demonstrate simple circuits.
  • Support from the 5K helped to fund a book vending machine for students to earn a book as a part of Rush Creek Elementary School’s Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support (PBIS) program.

Celebrate reading by registering a team of your friends and family to join in the fun!
